August Sucks
For reasons I cannot figure out the month of August has always been the worst time of the year for me. It might have something to do with heavy humid days combined with an intense heat that sucks the life out of most people. Another possibility has to do with the fact when I was a kid August meant summer break was soon to be over with another school year rapidly approaching like an unavoidable hurricane. Meaning my sad mental state right now is nothing but an instinctual relic from the time of homework drudgery, ornery teachers, and disappointing report cards.
Whatever the case my adult years have not seen anything better for this month. If some sort of bad luck came my way it stands a better than average chance of occurring during this month. Occasional good luck exceptions do exist but whenever they pop up I am always weary of the universe throwing an extra clump of high octane monkey poo to even out the cosmic scales. About the only thing nice I can say about this month is that September is usually better, although a nasty after taste of August can last for a week or two. Why even bring this boring crap up? Just finishing up a long and fairly disastrous week. The detail are unimportant, anyone who has read my inane meanderings for any length and time can easily imagine the usual suspects that hound me like a metaphysical Ahab with me being the tortured white whale. The first song sums up longing to be anyplace but where I am right now.
This song makes me feel better because autumn leaves means August is over. Plus Diane Krall is smoking hot in style, talent, and simple sexy beauty.
August is the last month of winter down here and its been a chilly and wet one this year. It hasn't been like this for many years and the biting wind is so lazy it goes through ya instead of around ya. Looking forward to spring next month when the weather should be a little warmer.
Where I live the kids go back to school in August and has been that way for as long as I can remember, including when I was in high school my own self, which was decades ago I might add :), and this year the kids had to go back on August 8th!!! At least when I was in school it was at the end of the month and not at the beginning.
i'm sorry your week has been so craptastic after the end of your least favorite month. september is around the corner and i hope it gets better for you.
October for me has the benefit of deserted beaches and low motel rates.
Windsmoke: I guess we can both expect increasingly strange weather patterns. The western United States is suffering from a very serious drought. The blatantly wasteful use of water in that part will eventually have to end.
Randal: Hell yeah! Planning an dude only road trip down to Florida with my cousin. Our target is one of the Jacksonville beaches but if trends continue we might head down to the Keys. Haven't been in real trouble in a couple of years, need to sow some wild oats before I get too old. Yell if you want to attend, my brother might come as well.
Akelamalu: For me its a bunch of things. Usually the heat and humidity have a lot to do with the situation. It makes people crazy.
Life As I Know It: It will when the weather cools down.
Lime: To be honest the two year-old lawn mower crapping out is a big reason why I feel this way. Its the forth or fifth mower to die and it renews my conspiracy theory that my butthole neighbor might have something to do with it.
I love July and August, but then we don't have that oppressive humidity on the West coast. Not sure why, our ocean is as wet as all the others?
My mother always made me go to Summer School every year and therein ruined all my summer vacations. We may hit the 90's for a few days, but mostly our air conditioner unit rusts most of the year.
My biggest regret is that I accidentally slept through the Perseid meteor shower AGAIN this summer. Hope there's a next year in my future.
I know I always dreaded the intense heat and humidity during the summer months in South Carolina. Of course I drove a car without AC, with would make anybody grumpy.
August is a winter month here but for me a lucky month. There has been snow, rain anything in August but everythime I went out in August we had good weather. Once I went with the kids on a scouting camp and it was 30 degrees....in August. We had to canccel our tramp because it was too hot. lol What a fantastic version of the magnificent song autumn leaves.
Buffett and Diana Krall, very nice for a stormy saturday. When I younger allergies made hate this time of year. That hasn't been bad lately, though I can't stop sneezing this morning.

The details may be different for each of us, but I'm right there with you on the idea behind this post.
I've always liked August because usually it is the best month weatherwise here in the UK - note I say usually. ;)

Weird that despite a diametrically opposed difference in climate, August sucks just as much downunder?
