I'm Back, Hopefully

Realizing uncertainty is one of the few universal constants, I'm taking this moment to write that I should be returning to regular posts by this weekend. Yes, my cardiac adventures have continued with two trips to the emergency room and another ablation procedure, which occurred last Thursday. This last one had the benefit of not seeming like total Hell. The whole story of my last two emergency room visits and the latest cardiac ablation are far to long and complicated to write about in the time I have right now.

Unfortunately, what I can relate is that while the good doctors and nurses did nail down several more trouble spots on my heart, there was one they couldn't zap and destroy. In fact, I was told it would take open heart surgery at another hospital in Chicago. Everyone involved, which naturally includes me most of all, hopes that my medicine can keep that bad boy under control. Yes, there are other options like implantable pacemakers and defibrillators but I really do not want to go there.

If brevity is the soul of wit I'll stop now because it actually looks like I summed up the situation pretty tightly without all the awkward social oversharing. Here's hoping that I am no longer living in medical interesting times to paraphrase what I think is an ancient Chinese curse.

Just to wish you well Bum, I read your posts on this ... do what you need to. 2 buddies of mine just had issues ... both in their 50's. One just had a heart attack, pretty close call, just made it to a hospital in time, they got a stint in his artery I guess by his heart, he was one of those guys too that never goes to doctors, dont eat too bad or is overweight, he's a mechanic and electrician by trade, he's doing ok now. Another buddy was just diagnosed with prostate cancer, so he's getting the chemo treatments. Hope you and your familia have a good Thanksgiving, guy.

Glad you got past the surgery and they got most of it. And glad there is medicine for the rest of it all. Looking forward to some of your stories again once you're up to writing. Take care of yourself!

Hi! I've been perusing your posts and am immeasurably impressed. I empathize with your current cardiac woes: had open-heart in 2006 for l.atrial myxoma; pacemaker implanted same week, went back to work 2 mo.s later. Tachycardia 1 year later --cardiac ablation solved it, but don't wake up during, like I did. Retired 2009 from gardening public places. No problems until throat cancer this past summer. Ok now, but must get checked by a beautiful otolaryngologist every 3 months. So far so good. I am only a boy of 68, almost 69 --an invertible number, like 96...uh, maybe not, but we won't let that discourage us will we. ps: following on GFC if you have it.
