I have been playing with a short story where a wounded member of a far-right militia goes to the emergency room and with no insurance has to face a crisis of conscience. Especially they type of folks I wrote about in this post.

Windsmoke: We have 30 to 50 million Americans without any dependable health care. Until the invention of Star Trek-level technology, if it ever comes, everyone all across the world will limp along in varying forms. The problem here in the States is that a good number of those with health insurance just do not care about those without. It tends to tick me off given how sanctimonious we Americans get about believing our poop does not stink.

Mr. Charleston: I have to recommend a book entitled "Evolution" by sci-fi author Stephen Baxter. In short it is hard science fiction book dealing with the evolution of humanity from tiny shrew-like creatures living with the dinosaurs to the far distant future. I do not think it is meant to be political but all through the ages creatures that fail to adapt changing situations go extinct. A no brainer, but there are real-life analogies to what he wrote about to the point I think Baxter does not hold much faith in the intelligence of modern humans.

Mike: There is always hope. But right now if I could I'd immigrate today and leave America behind. Like I mentioned to Mr. Charleston, in "Evolution" there is a chapter that takes place after the fall of Rome. The circumstances Baxter wrote about fit the modern United States exactly.Commander Zaiushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11000824454124236774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829836469690492751.post-38208037925837341382012-06-30T18:05:38.530-04:002012-06-30T18:05:38.530-04:00Mr Charleston, thanks for giving a damn.
